Country: England
Distance travelled:
Weather: hazy to start with but fining up by lunchtime

Today could only be described as slow. I woke early again and decided I definitely needed the shower I had been too tired to have the night before so I clambered out of bed and began the process of setting up the shower cubical and prepping everything needed. Then I remembered that I needed to turn the van’s boiler up to the high heat setting and turn on the ducted heating so I didn’t freeze when I stepped out. Nothing for it but to go back to bed for half an hour while things heated up.

I sat in the van with an instant coffee surfing the web until I remembered to check for nearby geocaches. There were three in what I would call a reasonable distance considering how lazy I am so I set out for the closest one which was sneakily hidden on the bridge across the Blithfield Reservoir.  I also took the opportunity to photograph our camp spot, I should have taken another one after the cloud had shifted it looked superb with blue skies and sunlight.

Mark spent the morning researching on the internet while I tried to sort out where we were going to store some more of our stuff in the limited cupboard space we have. This is going to be an evolving process I imagine, considering as the weather and our location changes, so too will what we need to have at hand.

I took a break to walk to the other two geocaches and on my return found a man releasing his homing pigeons into the sky. I stopped and we had a chat about the art of pigeon racing and I now know more about pigeons than I ever thought I’d need to. He was telling me he sends them off for races to France at a distance of nearly 500 miles and they generally make it home within a day. I didn’t tell him about the pigeon I ate in Vietnam…

After lunch we headed further south to our current wild camp. We are parked in the woods not far from the Trimpley Reservoir and have had a short walk through the mostly pine type forest. Like I said, a slow, quite day although very productive. I think I’ll dry the dishes and go to bed.
